Woman reading inside a huge book

I am sure that growing up you have been told how important reading was.  If it was not by your parents, probably by your teachers.  It is as true as it ever been and you should consider picking up reading as a habit if you haven’t already.  It is never too late and there is no such thing as a bad read.  So pick up a book, any book!

Cultivate the habit

Just like you know that exercising every day or at least 3 times a week is what you need to aim for, you should set yourself some reading goals.  You can decide to read what truly inspires you.  You can read the newspaper to keep up with the current events, the dictionary to learn new vocabulary words or the bible to get religious inspiration.  You like to read financial magazines, fashion articles or new healthcare developments? Go for it!

If you make time for reading every day, even if it is less than half an hour, you will teach your brain that it feels good to be fed that new and valuable information.  You will then seamlessly pick up your book or your magazine and turn off the TV for a change.

Reading is a great career booster

When people read, they stimulate their brain, but they obviously also add some very important knowledge to their internal data base.  No matter what career you are pursuing, reading can help you get to the next level.  You will not only improve your reading skills of course, but your overall education will be broader and potential employers will appreciate that aspect for sure. It might be what makes the difference between you getting a promotion or a new job offer in your field.  So reading is certainly not a habit to neglect and your career will benefit from it sooner or later.

Books are an obvious choice when you want to increase your knowledge and research some information.  However, these days there are so many other ways to learn, so don’t limit yourself so much.  You can watch videos as you exercise at the gym and learn how to build an armoire, for example.  You can listen to audio-books on your way to work and even can go as far as earn a second language that way.  You can watch television and documentaries; they are visuals books and can teach you many useful and interesting facts.  I like to think that reading a book is the best tool to use your imagination, but at times, books might not be convenient to use, so don’t forget about the other neat options available to you.

Be sure to include many type of reads in your life, such as best-sellers to keep up with the literature talents of the decade.  Inspirational and self-development books can also truly help your career and your personal development.  You already know you are overdue for a trip to the bookstore or library, so plan one today.  Reading will soon become your best friend, your relaxing partner and career advisor.  Read now, read more and read everything and anything…
